Local authorities have understood it and have focus their efforts to attract hikers, divers and other fans of nature and nature lovers activities.
By the 1990s, the authorities have opted for another tourism. They support the efforts of associations like the Community Tourism Dominicana (CTD), which develops micro projects with local communities. At Bellevue Field, in the south of the island, an organic farm was funded. In neighboring villages, is a nursery, which also training center office. With the discovery of the local food and flora, these initiatives are programmed excursions, the revenues benefit local communities.

More broadly, the island, which has only 70,000 inhabitants, is part of a sustainable approach.
