Production of stabilized solar energy
The 13,455 ground-based photovoltaic panels are coupled with lithium-ion battery storage technology, an energy conversion device as well as a smart management system that controls and adjusts the power produced in real time. This way, surplus power generated during very sunny periods is stored so it can be fed into the grid at times where there is less sun. As a result, peaks and troughs are smoothed out, stabilising power generation despite variable weather and peaks in demand.
Developing renewable energy in non-interconnected zones
As island territory, Corsica is part of non-interconnected zones of the continent’s network which has to strengthen their energy independence. Since 1987, the connection of Corsica with SACOI (Sardinia, Corsica, Italy) ensures only about 30% of its energy supplies and the island must therefore produce 70% of its electricity locally.
Combining source of renewable generation, storage device and system of intelligent energy management, the Solar Smart Grid opens new prospects for renewable energy use on the networks of non-interconnected zones.
