The surface of the coral reefs of the Caribbean declined by 80% in the last 30 years. The Pacotilles Mission will study the flora and marine life for two months from the north to the south of the Lesser Antilles to better understand ecosystems.
PACOTILLE (diversity patterns and connectivity of the Lesser Antilles) is the name of the scientific mission of Marine Biology, which sailed from Pointe a Pitre April 22, 2015 for a journey of nearly two months that will take them from North to South Lesser Antilles, Saint Martin to Granada.
Conducted by the Institute of Research for Development and the Institute of Biology and Ecology of Marseille, this mission aims sampling and biodiversity inventories on coral reefs and the estimation of wildlife and Flora of the Lesser Antilles.
Study exchanges between marine animals from one island to another
At a time when marine ecosystems of the Caribbean seem to be inexorably altered by various forms of pollution causing a reduction of 80% of the area of coral reefs in the last 30 years. This mission is essential to better understand and thus better protect our ecosystems.
