The first renewable energy powered town in french Polynesia
Thanks to hydropower and photovoltaic, Hanavave, 315 inhabitants town located on the island of Fatu Hiva, is considered as the first green town of French Polynesia.
Being powered originally by an aerial electrical connection from Omoa, the main town in Fatu Hiva, Hanavave chose initially to equip itself with a generator to facilitate its maintenance. However, the system has not been up to expectations and the town quickly turned to an alternative solution using the natural resources available.
Hanavave being fed by a continuous stream, the hydropower plant has become the most obvious solution. Today, the hydro power plant is able produce enough electricity for the population, a rescue group is present in case of emergency.
