The concession will be allowed if the absence of maerl is proven
“We will recreate an ecosystem,” says Benoit Salaun who is bringing this ambitious project of sustainable aquaculture activity off Molene island with oysters, hollow and flat, mussels, abalone, black scallops and algaes.
He hopes to obtain official authorization this summer to be able to install six spinnerets next fall before seeding at the right time for each species. Each sector will have two mothers buoys on the surface, supporting 100 meter long hawser submerged by 3-5 meters, which will be moored on 100 runs of 4 meters maximum where the products will be seeded. Shellfish Committee, holder of the concession, finance the experimentation over five years to identify the species of interest, with support from the EMFF (European fund for maritime affairs and fisheries), and maybe the marine park. The spinnerets should be set up to 2.8 km off Molene island, 10 hectares, but “the concession should not be retained as the absence of maerl will not be shown,” the CRC. The first dives suggest that the chosen area is blank.
A nearby fish farm project, carried by the farm Quéménès island, is also pending a future decision of the Prefect for the granting of the concession. Discover Molene island
