A diagnostic work was initially led by Finistere tourism, with Brest University. If it is known that France is the world’s destination, it is interesting to know that the Finistère département is the eighth destination, the islands representing a large part of this appeal. The development scheme, which runs until 2018, consists of six points: support for tourism offices, informing visitors from the mainland to the islands, adaptation of accommodation and catering offer , the definition of a communication strategy, the development of digital and finally the establishment of observation of tourism tools. The Convention is certainly an effective tool to channel aid decided by the departmental council for the islands.
Transportation: One of the weaknesses of tourism development in islands
Among the French tourists visiting the islands (more than nine out of ten visitors), 54% come from Britanny and 13% from Paris area. The transportation issue has not been addressed seriously and yet is one of the weaknesses of tourism development in the islands.Neither the company of buses Élorn (that leads tourists to Conquet Brest) nor the Penn-ar-Bed (which ensures the maritime link to islands) nor Finist’air (leading by air travelers to Ouessant from Guipavas) will coordinate their schedules with each other, much less with the SNCF and Air France, from elected officials. It takes ten hours to come to Ouessant from Paris by train-car-boat. But the height remains the lack of free parking at Conquet which greatly increases the cost of staying on Ouessant or Molene and stress travelers who need to find a place on the parking at the other end of town with random shuttle to bring them back to the dock. All these questions remain, for now, unanswered.
