Seychelles raise awareness among tuna fishery stakeholders to reduce catches
According to the latest scientific data, yellowfin tuna are captured beyond the capacity of the necessary stock renewal of the species. If no measures are taken to fight against overfishing, yellowfin tuna may be threatened, although it reproduces faster than bluefin.
As members of the Tuna Commission in the Indian Ocean, Seychelles has announced that they will ask, at the next meeting, a decrease of 20% yellowfin tuna fishing in the Indian Ocean.
As the third largest producer of yellowfin tuna cans in the world, the Seychelles are the management of tuna stocks an economic priority.
